Art has always been a part of Joe McLaughlin’s life, and he wanted to share the love of creativity by becoming an art teacher. But little did he know how far his love for painting would take him. McLaughlin, who currently teaches painting, street art, printmaking, and drawing at Windham High School, has broadened his canvas beyond the classroom and onto walls of businesses throughout Maine.

Windham High School students who passed Spanish 3 through Spanish 5 were able to attend a two-week trip in Costa Rica where they had the opportunity to interact with and immerse themselves within the culture there.

On June 27th more than 200 former WHS students returned to perform and celebrate the retirement of Dr. Richard Nickerson. Click headline for a link to a video recording of the concert.

Resilience isn't always about being unbreakable and sometimes it’s choosing to wake up, breathe, and put one foot in front of the other despite obstacles thrown in your way. Kendra Eubanks knows all too well what it means to be resilient but as she crosses the stage at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland on Sunday to receive her Windham High School diploma, her journey will have been worth the effort.

Please join RSU14 in congratulating Adrianne Shetenhelm who was named the 2026 Cumberland County Teacher of the year last week. She was honored at a ceremony in the Hall of Flags in Augusta on Friday. Adrianne works at Windham High School and is an integral part of the APEX program. Through her hard work and commitment to alternative pathways, many students have remained engaged in school and have earned their high school diploma. Congratulations to Adrianne for this amazing honor.

Lt. Michael Murphy was a U.S. Navy SEAL officer who tragically lost his life while taking intense Taliban fire to radio for help for his pinned-down squad after his team was compromised and surrounded by enemy forces near Asadabad, Afghanistan in 2005. His story has inspired Nate Plati, a Windham High School sophomore, to undertake The Ultimate "Murph" Challenge, an intense CrossFit workout and fundraising event conducted every year on Memorial Day.

It was perfect weather for what will hopefully become an annual event as Windham High School held its first-ever “Eagle Plunge” on Wednesday, May 20.

“When will I ever use this after high school?” It’s a question that teachers have heard echo through classrooms for decades. From math equations to lab reports to literary analysis, students often wonder how today’s lessons will matter in their future. But what happens when learning moves beyond the classroom and into the real world – where students are exposed to the ways math, science, and English are not only useful, but needed to succeed?

Nellie Feeney has played outfield since she was inT-ball.Growing up, she had to find ways to occupy her time. It wasn't like there were many fly balls coming her way. At the youth levels, the outfield can be a place of inaction, where few balls are hit and a safe haven can be found for
weaker fielders. But at the high school level, the outfield becomes a busy zone where balls fly, instincts are crucial, and a play can decide the biggest games.
