Like many coaches, Windham Middle School field hockey coach and seventh-grade English and Language Arts teacher Emily Grudzien began playing sports at a young age, but it wasn’t until she tried field hockey that she felt she really succeeded in a sport. It was a way for her to grow her confidence in middle and high school and feel like she was part of something outside her social circle.

Windham High School added an Esports team to its fall group of varsity teams in 2021. Esports is short for electronic sports and is a form of competitive video gaming. In the final game of the regular season, Windham played Weston High School of Connecticut and defeated them 2-0 on Tuesday, Nov. 14.

One of the greatest golfers of all time, Jack Nicklaus, believed that confidence is the most important factor in the game of golf, and he said no matter how great your natural talent is, there is only one way to obtain golfing success, and that is to work at it. Entering this new season, members of the Windham High School coed varsity golf team have been getting ready to showcase their skills and make a serious run at distinguishing themselves out on the links in 2023.

There’s something to be said for experience and especially when it comes to prep football. It can make the difference between making costly penalties and choosing the right route for receivers to exploit down the field. Entering the 2023 varsity season, the Windham High School varsity football squad will rely heavily on its experience to take them to another level on the gridiron.

Al Potter is confident that everyone, no matter who they are, can change the world and that we all possess the power we need inside ourselves to make a difference. As Windham High School’s Class of 2023 Valedictorian, Potter says he knows that life is so much more than academics and has strived to fill his life with activities, interests and pursuits to keep him grounded and connected to the community.

Whether in the pool or in the classroom, Hannah Heanssler always gives it her best and that has resulted in her selection as the recipient of the 2023 Doug Springer Scholarship, a $5,000 award given to a graduating high school senior for demonstrating a strong commitment and service to her swim team, school, and community.

For the first time since 1995 when softball was Class B, Windham softball has captured the Class A State Championship. Ranked second in Class A South and facing Class A’s No. 1 ranked Oxford Hills, Windham took control of the game early and worked hard to churn out a 3-1 victory at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham on Tuesday, June 20.
