Course:  English II Academic Period 1 & 3

Course Schedule: Monday & Wednesday

Essential Questions:  

What are the common elements of a text and how does an author use them to construct a narrative?

Student Assignments:

For today's activity, we will do the following:
-Read the chapter "Family of Little Feet" together as a class
-Review the Topic and Theme activity from last week, then complete it and turn it in.
-Review the Vignette Writing Project and discuss an exemplar.
 
Work you are responsible for completing today and for homework:
-Topic and Theme worksheet: Due today
-"Neighborhood Vignette": Start in class, DUE AFTER THANKSGIVING
-Read up to page 64 in the PDF of Mango Street
-Complete Vocabulary Packet (optional...we will review this after the break)

Course:  English II Academic

Course Schedule: Monday & Wednesday, Period 1A/3A

                                Tuesday & Thursday, Period 1B/3B

Essential Questions:  

What are the common elements of a text and how does an author use them to construct a narrative?

Standards/PIs:  

-I can explore the author’s use of elements such as setting, plot, and characters and how they work together in a text.

-I can explain the way in which the theme or claim of a text applies to the world, using textual evidence to support the claim.

-I can identify independent and dependent clauses.

-I can learn new words to expand my vocabulary.


Student Assignments:

-Students will review elements of fiction and take notes in class

-Students will complete "Independent & Dependent Clause" Exercises 1-3 on Grammarbytes.com

-Students will choose and read 3 fairytales from Grimm's Fairytale database and complete respective analysis sheets.

-Quiz over Elements of Fiction terms on Wednesday (1A & 3A) / Thursday (1B & 3B)
